WIN grants assist grandparents, UNL students

Women Investing in Nebraska (WIN) has awarded two $93,000 grants to assist a pilot program making mental health counselors more accessible at University of Nebraska-Lincoln residence halls and helping the Nebraska Children's Home Society expand its support network for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

WIN announced the grants at its annual awards celebration in Lincoln on Oct. 16. With these grants, the 190-member organizations cumulative grants benefitting University of Nebraska and Nebraska community projects total more than $1.2 million since 2012.

Miller speaks on women in workplace,
philanthropy trends

Jane Miller, chief operating officer at Gallup, spoke at the WIN gathering in an interview format with WIN Chair Candy Henning.

Miller said Gallup's studies on workplace engagement and employee wellbeing have shown that employers may need to offer more flexibility to attract employees in a very competitive environment. Women, she said, have different views about work and the perception of what women need in the workplace varies greatly.
