WIN's 2017 Grant Program Announced
WIN offers funding for Nebraska
WIN offers funding for Nebraska nonprofits
Nebraska nonprofit organizations and University of Nebraska programs addressing critical community needs at the local or state level may now submit funding ideas to Women Investing in Nebraska (WIN) for its 2017 grant awards.
Each year WIN awards two equal grants for projects addressing critical community needs in Nebraska. One grant is awarded to a Nebraska nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity, and the other is awarded to an organization or group directly affiliated with one of the University of Nebraska’s four campuses.
Potential grant seekers must submit a letter of inquiry by Feb. 17, 2017. Letter requirements are provided on the WIN website, womeninvestinginnebraska.org. Once letters of inquiry are reviewed, 12 to 16 organizations will be invited to submit formal grant proposals by April 21, 2017.
“WIN members look forward to this process every year, because we see tremendous work being done by Nebraskans to make life better in our state,” said Paula McClymont of Lincoln, chair of the WIN grants committee. “By coming together, WIN members multiply the power of their individual gifts to significantly impact the projects selected.”
Grant seekers may contact Lori Shriner at 402-458-1209 or 800-432-3216.
Women Investing in Nebraska seeks to make difference
In 2016 WIN awarded $125,000 in grants, split equally between the Food Bank of the Heartland’s Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen in Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Simulation in Motion–Nebraska training program for emergency medical training across the state.
WIN Chair Carey Hamilton of Omaha said 81 women joined WIN with contributions of $500, $1,200 or $2,400 between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016, which generated funds for the grants awarded in 2016. The 2017 grants will be based on membership gifts from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017.
“WIN was created by women who care about Nebraska,” Hamilton said. “We want to make a difference, learn about the issues Nebraskans face and encourage people who are addressing those issues. It’s exciting to see our membership grow and to be part of this important work.”
Since 2011 WIN has granted $692,650 among 10 organizations or university programs. Past grant award recipients are listed at womeninvestinginnebraska.org/awards.
WIN is a collective giving group operating in partnership with the University of Nebraska Foundation and the UNF Charitable Gift Fund to support women philanthropists through education, engagement and empowerment. The UNF Charitable Gift Fund is an affiliate of the University of Nebraska Foundation that offers additional options to donors in helping meet their philanthropic goals.
